Human Trafficking in High Point

Possible human trafficking in our college town?

With more and more claims arising, students at High Point University are growing increasingly wary about the shops and businesses surrounding campus.

A terrified mother took to Facebook a few weeks ago to spread awareness of a horrific incident that happened to her daughter and a few friends at the Target on Mall Loop Rd around 8PM.

The mother says her daughter went to go get the car alone to bring it curbside once they were all done shopping. “When she got to her car, there was a note card placed behind her door handle that said ‘SOLVE ME’ .”

Her daughter called her friends that were still in the store and they involved security. The girls made it back safely.

On the other side of the note, there was a “tic tac toe looking puzzle with jumbled numbers” on it. These people hope you stand there long enough and confused enough for them to kidnap you, a distraction technique.

There has been another report of a female student being followed to her car while being videotaped by a man at the very same Target.

These instances are only two reported times young women have been subject to human trafficking in High Point. The security personnel at Target need to be patrolling the parking lots as much as they watch for shoplifters.

Unfortunately, that is not the only incident happening so close to campus. The establishment, Crazy Mexico, on N Centennial St, has been called into question. Reports of students being drugged, hidden bathroom cameras, and other suspicious activity are currently being investigated by the police.

The young girls that attend HPU rely heavily on the security of the town and campus. Now, an entire student body is afraid to even go down the street to Target.

This is a dangerous environment that needs to be resolved by better communication amongst staff and students on the happenings of the areas. Students have yet to be notified of these investigations by HPU personnel or Amber Alerts (local police).

The case number regarding the Crazy Mexico restaurant is 202103777 if there is any information you may be able to offer.

If you or someone you know is a victim of human trafficking, get help from the National Human Trafficking Hotline at 1-888-373-7888 or Text HELP to BeFree (233733).

If you suspect Human Trafficking in your community, report it to the Greensboro Police Department's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 336-373-1000 immediately.

Week 3 history and workings of the supreme court

The Supreme Court and its workings     The Supreme Court of the United States is the highest court in the judiciary system with 9 judges all presidentially appointed. Some Supreme Court positions are served longer than the president that appointed them, or an entire lifetime.      The Supreme Court is held in the highest regard with the utmost respect, often giving the process and the judges an intimidating reputation; but it is not to be forgotten that these judges are people too, and although people of the law, they are just in their decision makings and have learned to be in a high position representing a great majority.     However, there can be bias as presidents have been known to try and influence the court's majority  opinion by appointing specific officials as judges, some with success, some not so lucky.     Receiving hundreds of thousands of cases a year, the Supreme Court has its own protocol and...
